Lily's next class didn't start for another 40 minutes, which meant that she had plenty of time to calm herself down and pull herself together after her embarrassing encounter with Severus. She practically ran to the bleachers of the Quidditch Pitch, violently wiping away the hot tears there were rolling out from her eyes. It was the only place she could think of now that would be quiet and empty. The wind whipped her red hair in her face and that too was angrily shoved away from her. How could she let herself get so embarrassed and upset? How could Severus be so insensitive? Lily sighed, she didn't really blame him, she never blamed him for anything really and defended him in every situation that he might need defending. No one understood it, her friends saw quite clearly that he was knee deep into the dark arts, but Lily still saw the best in him. Lily was still hopeful that he could turn things around, but right now she couldn't even really think about that. The only thing she could hear was his voice ringing in her ears, sharply shooting down any dreams she had of enjoying the ball with him or anyone else. She couldn't go now, she would look and feel like an idiot.
Lily was disappointed in herself, she hadn't even spoken up and defended her opinions on the Halloween ball. All she had been able to muster was a sour expression one that was enough to hide the tears burning behind her eyelids, threatening to slide down her face. She should have told him that he was being ridiculous, that he shouldn't let others opinions bother him, that it didn't matter who was wearing what. Of course he'd have to bring the 'stature' of others into it, how was what his friends thought any different? They were always bragging about their pureblooded statuses and their piles of money, but that was ok. How hypocritical. Next time she saw him, she would let him know exactly what she thought. That is, if she ever had the nerve to seek him out again.
Sliding into a seat, she threw her head back and looked up at the sky. The clouds seemed so white against the blue sky, so calming and perfect. Lily breathed in and out, not even bothering to wipe the tears away anymore. They were starting to dry up, slowly, but surely. The wind helped, the fresh air helped, but her eyes were feeling tired and her heart still hurt. What a day, what a terrible, awful day. She wanted to forget about it completely, to shove her feelings way down and forget about the dance, forget about going with Severus. She wanted to pretend that everything was the same again, that Sev was her best friend and that was all she wanted. Of course she couldn't forget and she groaned when she realized that no matter what she tried to think about instead, her mind drifted back to those last few minutes in the owlery with him. Since when was being a teenager so difficult? Why hadn't anyone warned her about feelings and dances and boys? On top of dealing with all of those things she was magical, which made her feel like she should be able to do something about them. Maybe there was some kind of spell to stop you from caring about someone in a way that you shouldn't. Ok, so that was a stupid thought, but Lily didn't care about being logical at the moment. All she wanted was to curl up under her blankets and go to sleep, but she cared too much about her classes to throw away her day because Severus had upset her. No, she had to treat this like any other situation where someone had hurt her and brush it off like it had meant nothing at all.
She noticed someone fly past and her stomach turned. Please don't notice me, please don't notice me she thought. Lily was in no mood to socialize and exchange pleasantries with anyone. Unfortunately, no one could tell when looking at her from far away and so the person on the broom swooped down and landed next to her in the bleachers. She quickly wiped away any lingering tears and hoped beyond hope that they couldn't tell she had just been crying. Lily forced a smile, the most pleasant one she had within her and waited for them to speak first. They'd want to know why she was out there, she was sure, so she needed to buy time to think of a suitable excuse.

Ruffling up his hair as he walked down the steps towards the quidditch pitch with his free hand, James had one thing on his mind. Gripping tightly on the broomstick he held in his other hand he reached the finally step and started to make his way quickly away from the castle. He had time for a quick run-about before his next class. Though he was pretty sure he wouldn't pay attention, like he ever did. Probably just pull a answer out of know where and either get it right, or make a smart remark to get the focus off that he hadn't done his homework...again.
When he reached the quidditch pitch he got onto the broom and started to raise high into the sky. So high that he could touch the clouds - if they were touchable. Looking down from the great heights, the school looked so small and the students that were walking around where barely noticeable. Smaller than ants from his view. Looking over at the quidditch pitch a devilish smile formed on his lips. "And James Potter has spotted the snitch..." The fifth year said out loud, like he was the announcer. "And the crowd goes wild as they see him take a dive towards it." And right when he said that he zoomed off as fast as he could pretending he was in another one of his matches.
Sometimes Potter did get carried away when it came to Quidditch, especially when no one was around and he was goofing off. "The snitch took a sharp left....can James catch up?" He continued to say and quickly made his broomstick take a hard left. He kept it up for a few minutes before claiming up into the sky. "He almost has the snitch in his hands. He is going for it. James has caught the SNITCH! GRYIFFINDOR WINS AGAIN! And the crowd goes wild!" James yelled from way up into the sky. Though no one could hear him from that far up. He was grinning like a mad man.
James then took another dive towards the quidditch pitch again and this time when he zoomed by the stands he saw a redhead there. His heart nearly stopped as he did a double take and almost ran into one of the towers of the pitch. "Lily..." He whispered. If James had another weakness besides quidditch. It would be here. He had been asking her for years to go out with him. And each time she said NO. But he wasn't going to give up that easily. Turning around and he gently landed on the stands and got of his broom. His brown eyes looking at the perfect creation in front of him.
Licking his dry lips and ruffling up his hair again he started to walk towards her. He saw her wiping at her eyes and wondered if she had been crying. Instantly he felt anger at whoever dared would make her cry. If she had been crying he hoped that he wouldn't make it worse. Then again it seemed that he never had the right words to say to her. "Hey Lily." His voice came out before he could even think. They were alone and it was probably the first time since he was usually surround by his friends. "Are you okay?" Waiting for her to say to him to get lost or go away or go swallow a toads foot or something.

Of all the people that could have caught Lily in this vulnerable moment it had to be James Potter. He was the very last person Lily wanted to see, OK not the very last, but close to it. When he spoke to her his voice sounded different than it usually did, she saw him in a slightly different light without his friends surrounding him. Could James actually be showing some concern for her and her feelings? He never really paid attention to her feelings before, otherwise he might have been easier on Severus or he might have respected her when she said 'no' to his constant attempts to ask her out. Why did he even bother anyway? He couldn't possibly really like her, he barely knew anything about her and anything he did know was second-hand information. Lily hated how backwards everything felt, if only Severus had the kind of courage James seemed to have when it came to her. She searched for an answer to his question, not wanting to show too much emotion to someone she disliked. Of course Lily didn't hate James, no, he was more annoying than anything else. He rubbed her the wrong way with his arrogance and constant bullying of Sev, it was obvious that he didn't take a single thing seriously.
Lily had no energy for a creative reply as much as she would have liked to say something obnoxious and completely rude to convince Potter that she disliked him more than she actually did. So instead she just answered his question and gave him a small smile. It was probably the first smile she had ever given him, usually the only facial expression he could ever coax out of her was a scowl or a look of pure annoyance. She wondered if he would notice or make some sort of smart comment about her finally warming up to him. He was so arrogant, so boastful and proud, so unlike her. This is not to say that there weren't things that Lily was proud of, but she was never as vocal about them as James was.
"I'm alright, thanks. Practicing Quidditch? It would be great if we won the Quidditch cup this year."
Lily knew that Quidditch would easily distract James from prying into her personal life, or noticing the final tear of the moment sliding quietly down her face. She wiped it away quickly as she spoke, preferring to focus on attempting to have a civil, friendly conversation with him. Besides, the damn sport was all James seemed to think or talk about, so she saw no harm in humoring him for once. It was a simple subject and since they were both in the Gryffindor house there would be no heated debates about which house had the better team.
As much as she hated to admit it, James was a very talented chaser and had done a lot for their team. Actually, he seemed to be naturally talented at a lot of things, which Lily found frustrating and annoying. Of course she would never in a million years tell him these things because as far as Lily was concerned his head was a big as a watermelon. She supposed that's why he and Sirius Black got along so well, they had a tendency to inflate the egos of one another. What a pity, James was actually rather handsome and if it weren't for basically everything about his personality, Lily might have found him attractive.
As she waited for him to reply she found herself calming down even more. It was amazing that she didn't feel all worked up and tense in his presence, normally just having James around made her feel a bit agitated. Then again, normally all of his friends were around and they'd egg him on as horrible words spewed out of his mouth, words aimed at her very best friend. Sev would be disgusted that she was even talking to James, but unlike Sev Lily gave everyone a shot. By no means did she think James truly deserved a shot at being her friend or even having her speak to him in a friendly tone, but the events of the day had left her completely worn out. She wanted desperately to avoid any sort of bickering with him because it would only make her feel worse.
((Sorry, I got kind of tired at the end there . . .so, it's not my best))

James wasn't sure if he wanted to sit down or stay standing. But there was one thing for certain, he was finally alone with Miss Evans and that was the best feeling in the world. Maybe he could show her that he wasn't just a big ego grabbing guy. Then again, he was rather popular and he knew it. Also he did pick on Snape a lot, since their first year. There was something about him that James just didn't like. But he knew as the years past he didn't like the friendship between Lily and him. Guess some people would call him jealous. But he would probably deny it. And he would probably deny the fact that he was having a serious conversation with Lily. Finally he just sat down - near her of course but giving her space. Placing his broom down in front of him and looked back over at her.
Did she just smile at him? No way did Lily Evans, the girl that kept turning him down just smile at him. He hoped that he wasn't dreaming and he felt his stomach being tied in knots. "Not really practicing. Just getting away..." He nodded towards the castle and shook his head. Still thinking about how beautiful she looked when she was smiling and not scowling at him. Though, James did enjoy that look too. How can one girl make him go crazy in the head? "I know we will win this year. Our team is very good this year and everyone has been working every hard." He should know, he was captain after all.
Dropping the subject of Quidditch, which was a first for James, he looked concern as he looked over at Lily. "Are you sure you are okay?" Maybe he was showing too much that he did care. He was never really good at this stuff. Maybe he would need a talk with Moony later cause he wouldn't go to Sirius. No Sirius was more of a lady's man, the though made him smile in the inside.
But then his focus was on Lily once more as he leaned back, his brown eyes still focused on her. The fifth year was still rather amazed that she hadn't shunned him yet. Then again it was still early. And he hadn't done anything in the past hour that would had any cause for her to be angry with him. He thought about it, no he couldn't think of anything. James took a deep breath in and then let it out. "Look Lily, I know we don't get 'along' and you hate me..." James started. "But between you and me...if there is anything you let me know. I have never seen you cry before but I rather have you mad at me then seeing you cry." This was probably the most sincere anyone has ever witness seeing James. And Lily was the only one outside his circle of friends to have witness it.
Sitting up straight and looked away, kind of embarrassed that he just opened himself up to her. He did like her, a lot. And he hated to see her like this, even if it was the first time ever that he saw tears in her eyes. He ruffled up his hair a bit with on of his hands and fixed his glasses before looking back over at her. Wondering what she would say next. Laugh at him? Telling him bugger off? Slap him? All this and more went through his head as he awaited a response from the redhead that sat nearby him.

James sat down next to her. She wasn't alarmed or upset by this, although if he had gotten too close she would have felt rather uncomfortable. After all, if they were going to be there for a while he might as well sit. Lily wanted to keep things short, sweet and simple, but something told her that James wouldn't let her walk away so quickly. She was pleased that he seemed to be going along with her Quidditch conversation, but felt a little uneasy when he said that he wasn't practicing. He was 'getting away.' Lily wondered what that could possibly mean, but she wasn't about to pry into James Potter's business. She didn't care or she wouldn't allow herself to care because the next time she saw James he would be back to his same old tricks. What could James Potter possibly have to get away from? In Lily's eyes he had everything but modesty and compassion.
"I believe it. I'm sure you'll make an excellent captain for the team this year, James."
Yuck. Lily was being far too nice to him, what were these girly emotions and tears doing to her? Complimenting James Potter, was she nuts? Lily looked down at her shoes for a moment and bit her bottom lip, this was too weird, it was confusing her. She made an immediate decision to stick to her convictions and not change her mind about James Potter. That's it, she'd only be mean to him if he were rude to herself or Severus . . .so about 99% of the time she expected her relationship with James to be less than friendly. And then he looked at her with concern.
Crap. He asked her if she was okay and Lily immediately replied with a simple "Of course, why wouldn't I be?" Before she could even open her mouth to shoot an insult at him, he had leaned back and looked at her intensely as he opened up to her. Lily was a bit surprised and her wide-eyed expression surely showed this. She didn't know what to think or what to say, this day was just absolutely ridiculous. James Potter actually had a soul!
Lily thought it was mildly charming how embarrassed he was and how he looked away from her so quickly. Other girls would be jealous of the obvious hold that Lily had on James, but Lily wished she had no hold on him at all. She wished that James would leave things be and let his silly crush on her go, or, another thought crossed her mind. What if James were this open and honest all of the time with her? How different would things be, how different would her feelings be? Lily quickly dismissed the thought with a bit of disgust, impossible.
For as bold of a redhead as she was, Lily was not about to shun James in such a delicate moment. She chose her words slowly, carefully, in order to quickly take care of the matter. She could tell he had been sincere, that it had taken a lot for him to be so forthcoming. Lily appreciated this, even if she wasn't James' biggest fan. Also, it hurt her a little to hear that someone thought she hated them. Lily had yet to meet anyone she 'hated'. Hate was such a powerful word, one that needed to be reserved for the most evil of people. Lily didn't hate James, she thought he was arrogant and mean spirited, but she certainly didn't hate him. Dispelling this idea was her first order of business.
"James. I don't hate you, I don't hate anyone. So you can just forget about that idea. I just don't understand you, I don't understand why you're so . . .cruel and haughty. And-I-I don't understand why you're telling me all of this."
Lily was unsure of what else to say. It would be even more awkward if James admitted how he truly felt about her, especially since she would have no choice but to tell him the truth and turn him down. Still, she was very confused and emotional from her earlier encounter with Severus. This sudden niceness was so uncharacteristic of James, maybe he was faking, setting in motion some sort of cruel prank.

Hearing Lily say those words brought a smile to his face. He hoped he would make a great captain, a lot of people were wanting to win the cup this year and James had made plans to win it for them…and for himself. Hey, there was no shame in wanting some glory plus first year as captain and those winning the cup didn’t look too bad. It would help when he decided to go professional. But the fact of everything right now was that Lily didn’t say anything harsh to him. Maybe if he played the nice guy card to her she would be nicer to him. The light bulb in his brain went off as if he just discovered the secret of women.
James saw her eyes and expression when he said his words of concern. He was letting on that he was more than an arse and that he actually did have a heart. The Gryffindor looked at her eyes, so pretty, so knowing. It was pretty easy on how Lily came to have this effect on him. It all started in their first year. Despite what she or other think, James had known Lily for all of their years at Hogwarts. Having been sorted into the same house for one and then the many classes together. But for James it started on the platform. He had just said his goodbye’s to his mother and father and was about to hop unto the train when a redhead walked by him. An eleven year old was smitten with everything about her from that moment. And since then he had been trying to win her over – or at least getting to know her.
But time and time again he was denied. When other’s would have given up, James kept at it. He didn’t know how many times his friends told him to give up on the redhead. But James wouldn’t allow it. She was like a drug and James was addicted to it. Ruffling up his hair again as just the mere thought of it made him uneasy. The fifth year sometimes wished that he wouldn’t feel this way about her. This emotion wasn’t something he enjoyed. But he did enjoy getting her all fired up. Maybe he should stop that. But to do that, he had to be nice to Snape. Bloody hell, that would be the day that hell froze over. What did she see in him anyways? (The mind of a fifteen year old was a complicated thing. All these different scenario’s running though – all these thoughts. No wonder James had just a hard time focusing in class.)
When Lily spoke again, James looked over at her. She didn’t hate him? Well that was a shocker. He was so sure that Lily hated him. He wasn’t the nicest guy when it came to her friend – the Slytherin. She just didn’t understand him? Cruel and haughty? Didn’t understand? Questions that only James had the answer too and he sighed just a bit in defeat. Maybe he would just tell her. Get it all off his chest. Maybe even give her a heart attack or two along the way? Probably scare her off. (There it went with the scenario’s running again).
“A lot of the time I just do and don’t think.” He started off. Which was true. He would just say the first thing that came out of his mouth. “There is some things I don’t even understand. But when someone rubs me the wrong way I take it personal – that’s when I say those things.” He didn’t’ want to mention that it had to do with his friends being there. Also it was fun to play jokes on others. “I am not always cruel. Just you never really gave me the chance to prove that too you.” Ruffling up his hair again thinking about all the nice things James has done for others. He was always there for Sirius – especially since his family sort of disowned him after he was placed in Gryffindor. And when he found out that Remus was a werewolf he didn’t turn him away instead he wanted to help his friend. Which is why he became an animagus, to be there for his friend during those rough full moons. And then there was Peter – the odd one out of them four. But James accepted him as his best friend. James wasn’t entirely cruel – no in fact he was rather accepting of others. When others would shun away his friends he gave them a friendship that he knew would last forever.
“Why not tell you this? I think you should know.” He didn’t want to add that he wasn’t going to stop asking her out. And if he read her mind he added, “No jokes Lily I am serious.” He paused to think about it. “Or as serious as I am going to get for the time being. Just think you should know there is more than a cruel haughty toerag Potter.” He had to joke at the last part, about the toerag. “Never judge a book by his cover.” He added and smirked, cause he thought it was well fitting for him.

“A lot of the time I just do and don’t think. There is some things I don’t even understand. But when someone rubs me the wrong way I take it personal – that’s when I say those things. I am not always cruel. Just you never really gave me the chance to prove that too you.”
Lily blinked a few times, trying to take in everything that he was saying. Seems like James Potter had a lot more to say than she ever thought he would. She still didn't feel like his explanation gave him any right or reason to treat Severus the way that he did and she would tell him so, no matter how upset at Sev she was feeling at the moment. Potter was right though, she never did give him the chance to prove that he was a nice guy, but he never gave her a reason to try and see him any other way.
"Well, maybe you should learn to think before you speak. I'm sorry Potter, but there really is no excuse for the way you treat Severus. I'll admit, the people he spends his time with are far from good . . .I can tell that, but it doesn't mean you should treat him with disrespect. And I'm a level-headed person, I know it's not always one-sided, but you could be better . . .you could be kind. I've seen you be different today, but I know that no matter what I say to you, you'll go on doing the same things you always do."
Lily had not meant to rant like she had, but James Potter seemed so full of contradictions. How was she supposed to believe that he was a nice guy when he tormented her best friend? It was impossible for her to give him the benefit of the doubt, she reserved that for Severus, who she felt deserved it. It didn't matter anyway, she couldn't see herself ever being good friends with James and he was far too obnoxious for her to ever consider dating him. So, he had opened himself up to her, what kind of reaction was he expecting? After everything he had said and done, after all of the years they had known each other, it would take more than a serious speech for her to change her mind about him.
He had told her to not judge a book by it's cover, but she hadn't done that. Lily saw that as looking at someone and judging them, Lily never did that, isn't that what James had done regarding Severus? If James held himself above Sev because he didn't have much in the way of money, then he'd have to hold himself above her as well. After all, she and her best friend came from the same neighborhood and similar financial backgrounds. Of course Lily knew that money wasn't why Potter and his friends picked on Severus, but they didn't mind throwing in a joke or two about it.
She sighed, telling Potter that he was mistaken would result in another long rant. Lily figured that whatever she told him would go in one ear and out the other, why even bother? Glancing at her watch she noticed that she had been 'chatting' with Potter for about 20 minutes. Had time really flown by that fast? This left Lily with 15 minutes to get to her next class, since she had spent 5 by herself, crying her eyes out. This was ample amount of time for her to get there, but Lily was looking for an excuse to leave, an easy way out of this awkward situation.
"Well, I must be going now. My Transfiguration class starts in a few minutes and I don't want to be late. McGonagall will have my head if I am."
She gave him a small smile and started to gather her things. Not wanting to be completely rude, she at least waited for some kind of reply. Lily didn't think she owed Potter anything, but he had opened up to her and she would at least let him get in any last words he was dying to say.
((sorry it took me a while to reply and that this isn't the best :/))

So he was right, she wouldn’t have anything to do with him because of that little Slytherin that she called her friend. He couldn’t look at her when she spoke of him and how he treated her friend. Though she knew he was into the dark arts? And she would continue to be his friend and James just pulled off a couple “harmless” pranks and gets called a toerag. James didn’t like him, and he was sure that Severus didn’t like him as well. “If you were my girlfriend I will be nice to anyone you wish.” He sort of muttered it because he didn’t want to be yelled at. Any other time it would fine but James had a lot of things to think about.
It seemed to Potter that Lily rejected him yet again and it kept hurting every time. He liked the firey red-head who captivated his heart all those years ago. Potter wasn’t one to give up on something he wanted, but when it came to her, James just wanted to make her happy. And it seemed that he has done nothing but bring her down. Lowering his eyes a bit until his head was titled down and he stared at the wooden bleachers. The Gryffindor took a deep breath, he was lost at words. He had a tough decision ahead of him but he didn’t want to make it yet. Clearing his throat he stood up and looked down at the other fifth year when she said she had to go to her next class.
Potter had the same class, in fact he loved that class. Professor McGonagall loved him, he was very good at transfiguration, probably better than the entire class. It did help that he taught himself how to go into animagus form. Though no one knew about that, though he was sure that Dumbledore knew. James watched as Lily was getting her things. “Lils?” He said, giving her the nickname he called her when he was about to ask her out. But what came out was “I am sorry. I guess I will never be good enough for you.” Then he picked up his broom and started to head up towards where the stairs were so he could get down. He didn’t feel like flying at the moment. Everything he wanted to get away from, seemed to follow him everywhere. He would never be good enough for her, he knew it. Potter wasn’t a quitter and he vowed that he wouldn’t give up on her. Plus, it kept Sirius away from her. Potter would have his head if his best friend would even dare try anything. Sirius knew this.
How can one simple girl have this effect on him? Everyone could see it. Everyone could see how much he liked her. No other girls stood a chance, they tried and each and everyone failed to get the fifth year interested in them. His mind travelled back to the conversation he just had with the red head. It was the first time that they had actually been alone and he was able to show her that he was more than what people make him out to be. There was no name calling, no words of hurt, no words of anger. Just a simple conversation and still she wouldn’t give him the time and day. Thinking about it more, he looked up at the sky and then turned around and went back to Lily.
“Hello again.” Potter said. But that was as far as he could go. He wasn’t sure if he wanted to go on with this plan of his. He would never hear the end of it from Sirius if he found out. “Lils?” He started off. “If I am ni…nic…nice to your friend, Severus. And give him a chance and not prank him, hex him, jinx him, make fun of his unwashed hair or give him a hard time. Would you go to the Halloween Party with me?” Yeah, he had too. He wouldn’t be James Potter if he hadn’t. But this time was not joking around and it was very apparent that he was trying to be sincere. He would try to be nice to Snape for Lily, no one else. “I will do anything to prove that I am being honest.”
(occ: Its okay. I am sorry for the latness. And its not very good. I will make it better next time. Promise!)

Lily's ears perked up and she had to pay special attention to hear what James had muttered. Something about a girlfriend and being nice. Typical James, he couldn't just have a conversation with her, he had to throw in a little something about the two of them dating. It just wasn't going to happen, not now or probably ever. In the back of her mind she hoped that she hadn't caused the boy too much hurt, but it was his own fault for not just leaving her alone. When Lily said no, she meant no and there was little that he could do to change her mind. Although, and this is something she would never admit to anyone, she liked the softer side of James. There was something charming about his sensitivity, even if she thought it was all just an act, a desperate ploy to try and get her to agree to go out with him.
She couldn't help but think that maybe she had been right about him when he started to follow her out, but instead of asking her out, he said one of the saddest things that she had ever heard. “I am sorry. I guess I will never be good enough for you.” Her heart sank, was she really that cold and mean? No, she was just honest, she didn't want to hurt James' feelings, but she wasn't interested in him in that way. He was far too insensitive and immature. If Lily was going to date anyone, they would have to be kind and mature and up until now James had never seemed to possess any of those qualities. She was at a loss for words, how do you respond to something like that?
"James. It's not that. I'm just . . . I'm not interested in dating anyone right now, it's nothing that personal." Lily was lying a tad because she was interested in dating someone (despite this person's flaws) and it was personal. James' personality was a complete turn off, but it wasn't that she didn't think he wasn't good enough for her and that he never would be. She didn't see herself as superior to him, they were just different people with different goals, values and personalities. Lily couldn't see them getting along long enough to be in a relationship.
"Do you honestly think we'd work? We're very different James, but I don't think that I'm better than you or that you're not good enough for me. I just think that we're too different."
Lily didn't want to talk about it anymore, she just wanted to get to her class and focus on her studies. The day had been filled with too many heartfelt conversation, too much heartbreak, just too many matters of the heart in general. She was fed up with being sensitive and caring, she wanted to be completely oblivious to the existance of James Potter and of Severus Snape. Her body couldn't wait to collapse onto her bed, to sleep away the rest of the day and wake up tomorrow forgetting that all of it had happened.
Then James asked her to the Halloween dance and clenching her fists was all she could do to keep from screaming. He really thought that he could bribe her into going to the dance with him by being nice to Severus. James Potter didn't know her at all! She wouldn't just agree to something like that, no matter how much she cared about her friend. Lily wouldn't support someone being falsely nice to her best friend especially just for one night.
"I'm not going to the Halloween dance, with you or with anyone else. I'm not interested in it. And James, if you were nice to Severus because you were a nice person . . all of the time, not just because you wanted me to go to some stupid Halloween party with you, then maybe . .just maybe I'd consider it. But I don't do bribes and I don't make deals. Prove to me that you're being honest by just being a good person by just being nice and being kind like you were just a few minutes ago every day. Now, I've really got to be going to class. Have a good day, James Potter."
Lily let out a huge sigh and ran out of the bleachers, clutching her books close to her chest and willing herself to move forward. She needed a distraction, the one she had been hoping to get when she planned on spending time alone at the pitch. The only distraction she could think of was magic, pure, simple, good magic, this is Lily Evans were talking about.
((Sorry this took so long . . .my Lily muse was basically dead))
