OKAY, SO GIVE US THE BASICS !
"ER, HELLO THERE. I AM ELLE VICTORIA BUT YOU CAN JUST CALL ME ELLE. I HAVE BEEN WREAKING HAVOC FOR SEVENTEEN YEARS AND I DON'T REALLY PLAN ON STOPPING SOON. I GRACED THIS WORLD WITH MY PRESENCE ON OCTOBER 29TH, 1957. I BRANDISH A 12 ½ INCH, UNICORN TAIL HAIR, HAZEL WAND, I KNOW YOU ARE JEALOUS. I AM IN THE HOUSE OF HUFFLEPUFF, SEVENTH YEAR, AND DAMN PROUD. I WAS BORN WITH MIXED (HALF AND HALF), NOT THAT IT REALLY MATTERS. SO YEAH, ARE WE DONE?"
SORRY, NOT QUITE. SO WHAT ARE AND AREN'T YOU INTO ?
"I like helping people. Lending a hand if someone needs it. It’s just in my nature. I’m a very personable person, and I especially like kids. I babysit for people around my neighborhood all of the time, and so I have no problem helping first years and showing them around, giving them tips for life at Hogwarts. As a matter of fact, I like the idea that I could have some sort of impact in someone else’s life.
I also like politics, both muggle and magical. I’m hoping to get a job at the Ministry once I graduate this year. I like to play mind games like word puzzles and chess, I especially like chess. I can be a bit of a nerd sometimes, I’ll admit. I like the idea that there are people out there doing good, especially Aurors, and I would love to be trained as one someday. I like selfless acts, whether to friends or strangers. I love music, listening to it or singing, or even playing a little. I know some piano, not a whole lot, but enough to get by, I suppose.
I don’t like a lot of vegetables, which can lead to a pretty horrible diet sometimes. I don’t like people who pick on others or put them down just for being different. Okay, maybe if they gave you a reason to dislike them, or they’re a terrible person you can be mean to them, but not just because of something random. Or people who pick on people who really can’t defend themselves. You know? Ummm… Obviously, I think rules are there for a reason. Not that I’ve never broken a rule or two, because I have, but if you’re breaking them just for the sake of breaking them, I just don’t get it. I don’t like spiders, but I’ll squish them if they’re small enough. I definitely don’t like being unable to do something. It frustrates me so much to try something again and again and still not be able to get it right, no matter how hard it may be!"
HOW ER... INTERESTING. EVER LOOKED INTO THE MIRROR OF ERISED ?
"I want to be the Minister of Magic someday, or an Auror. I dream of making a real difference in people’s lives, and the best way to do that on a grand scale is to get involved in politics and the ministry. I think I’d be great at it, because I’m truly compassionate, but I know what needs to be done to improve the way things are now.”
WHAT MAKES YOU SHAKE IN YOUR BOOTS ?
"My biggest fear is of people not liking me. Sometimes I get a little worried that people don’t really want to be my friend, and I get paranoid that one day everyone is going to admit that they hate me, and that I wasn’t really their friend all along. It’s irrational, I know. I’ll go out of my way to do things I know people will like, just so they’ll like me more sometimes. Two other fears would have to be dying, because I do have some sort of fear of the unknown, and failure. I hate letting people down, so I’m always afraid of failing at something that someone was counting on me to be able to do.”
EVEN YOU HAVE TO HAVE SOME GOOD QUALITIES, RIGHT ?
"I don’t know, I’m not extra-good at any one thing, really. I guess if I had to say some positive things about myself, I’d go with that I have a giving nature, and that I love to help people. I follow the rules for the most part, I’m a good person, and I care about others. I always put 100% into any task I undertake, and I will rarely give up on something I’ve started. I can keep a secret and a promise, both things are very important to me.
I’m very spirited. Before I came to Hogwarts my parents had me enrolled in a muggle school, where I was a cheerleader. I love spirit, and being involved. I have tons of house spirit, and will do whatever I can to help my house be the best it can be!"
AND IT'S QUITE OBVIOUS YOU HAVE YOUR BAD, HUH ?
"Is being too nice a negative? Haha, just kidding, of course. Uh, I don’t think there’s anything terrible about me... I can be a little nervous at times, like before giving a speech or performing in front of people, whether a sport or anything else. And I sometimes have some self-esteem issues, which I guess aren’t a good thing, but I’m overcoming those, so they’re not that big of a problem, really! Okay, sometimes when things bother me I don’t say anything, and they sort of build up and fester inside of me. That’s probably my biggest negative quality, though it doesn’t affect other people for the most part, just me."
LET'S GET DIRTY. WHAT TURNS YOU ON ?
"Superficially? I love somewhat shaggy hair, at least something that is more than an inch. Things that really matter? I love people who can make me laugh, and musical talent is a plus, but not required. If they’re a little nerdy that’s always good, maybe someone who could take me in a chess match. But honestly? Just a kind, honest person who is fun to be around is all I need. Someone I want to spend time with 24/7, someone I miss when they’re not around."
DO YOU LOVE YOUR FAMILY ?
"I do love my family. I came from a mixed household, which was great. My mother, Andrea, was a muggle teacher, while my father, Lincoln, was a wizard. He works developing new spells and magical items. He was in Ravenclaw. I have a little sister, Alyson, who is only 10 years old right now. Yeah, we’re really far apart, but she’s a great kid. I miss her so much while I’m at school! I can’t wait to see what house she gets sorted into. I’m not very close to my cousins, or my aunts and uncles, really. Nothing major, we just drifted apart over the years. I have two dogs at home, and at school I have a cat. They’re all like family to me, too.
WHERE YA FROM, BY THE WAY ?
"I’m from Reading, England. I love the rivers there, Thames and Kennet… I’m a fan of water scenery. It’s a pretty big town when you get right down to it. All of the Victorian houses there are just stunning!"
THE DEMENTORS ARE HERE. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF ?
"During my first year, I tripped in the Great Hall. I felt like everyone saw it, and it was right by the Slytherin table so everyone there started to laugh. It was humiliating. I laughed it off and pretended it didn’t bother me, but I was really traumatized."
BETTER GET UP A PATRONUS. WHAT ARE YOU REMEMBERING ?
"Meeting my best friends during my first year. They were both in the year above me, but I really looked up to them, and they helped me transition to Hogwarts smoothly. I don’t know what I would’ve done without them! It’s a pity they both graduated last year, and are off in the real world. Now it’s just me here!"

Erica looked around the Common Room, searching for a familiar face. She found several of them, many from her year and a few others, but each of them was surrounded by a group of friends. Listening in on their conversations from her seat by the fire it didn’t take long to learn that they were all catching up on what the others did over the summer holiday. She smiled a little to herself until one of the chattering students, a 3rd year girl, noticed her listening and gave her an odd look. Erica quickly turned her eyes back down to the sentence she’d been reading in her book. If only she were as confident and charming, personality wise of course, as Dorian Grey… imagine what he’d say to her here, not even able to join in on a conversation with a bunch of fourth years! Still, it was their conversation, and she didn’t want to interrupt or intrude. They were older than her, after all.
It took her several tries to finish that particular sentence because several loose strands of her layered, chocolate brown hair kept falling infront of her russet hued eyes, obscuring her vision. A few more sentences down she found herself unable to concentrate on her book. This was a rare thing for her, but she knew that she’d made a promise to herself to be more sociable. That certainly wasn’t the case now as she was sitting alone by the fire, legs curled up underneath her while she read a book written ages ago, a Muggle book that half the students here hadn’t even heard of. So what could she do? Every time she had the idea of talking to one of the other students she always felt out of the loop, and she didn’t want to disrupt their already-in-progress conversations. She found the idea of a 12 year old girl unable to start a conversation a very absurd idea, but here she was just the same, pondering the best way to make some new friends. Sure, she’d made a few friends last year, but she wanted to make more this year. She couldn’t go out with people still calling her ‘that quiet girl’ all the time! She was Erica Nightshade, and she was determined to make a name for herself.
Putting the bookmark in the crease of the page she was on, Erica closed the book and looked around the room once more. She spotted a few sixth year girls just across the room talking about the upcoming Quidditch season. Erica had just begun to play Quidditch herself over the summer, but didn’t’ think she was good enough for her House team or anything. Either way, at least she knew enough about it to join in on such a common topic. She’d read several books on it, even though she hadn’t sat down and watched a school Quidditch match since early last year. As she got up from the armchair, though, she discovered a moment too late that the leg that had been curled up underneath her had gone numb. With one very ungraceful movement Erica wobbled a bit on the unfeeling leg before having it collapse under her, causing her to fall to the floor with a soft thud.
Even though only a few select groups nearby noticed her, as most of the Common Room was too wrapped up in their personal conversations to have noticed her quick descent, it felt as if all eyes had turned on her. Erica’s face blushed a deep crimson as she quickly got up, burying her face back in her book as she made a hasty retreat up to the second year dorms. Perhaps tomorrow would be a better day to start her new social life.
